89 MPG?!?!?!?!?!

For those out there who love the Tiguan, but want a little more space, VW may be coming out with something in the near future that may tweak your interests. You'll also be very interested to hear about it's new efficiency numbers. Get ready, record books....

This new CrossBlue concept will feature a revolutionary diesel-electric, plug-in hybrid powertrain. That's right. We've all wondered when diesel and hybrid technology would pair up, and the time is now. It is a TDI Clean Diesel engine, mated to two electric motors, and then a DSG gearbox mated to VW's 4Motion. 4Motion + DSG + TDI + Hybrid = a staggering 89 mpg in electric mode and 35 mpg combined. In a 6 passenger, 3-row SUV. Wow.

As if that wasn't enough, the powertrain also pumps out 306 horsepower, and a whopping 516 pound-feet of torque. That's enough to launch the car from 0 to 60 in just 7 seconds. Three rows, fuel efficiency, and brute strength should be enough to catapult this vehicle into the record books, when it's released....
