2013 Model Update

Great news for those who are in the market, or who will be in the market for a 2013 Tiguan. Volkswagen has kept many of the features of the pocket SUV that owners and fans love (like the 2.0T that deliver 200 hp and still gets over 26 mpg on the highway). However, VW felt that owners could use a few more comfort features in their Tiguans. The 2013 Tiguan will offer more standard features like Electronic Parking Brake, Hill-Hold Control, a leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel, and a leather shift knob FOR ALL TRIM LEVELS. Nice!!! The SE trim level will now offer a partial power passenger seat! Also, the SEL trim level will have a power passenger seat AND a rear view camera. Upgrades, upgrades!

Is It My Turn Yet?

Yes it is. We've all watched patiently as Volkswagen's R-Division has dazzled us with cars like the R-Line CC and the Golf R. We've watched patiently as they've massaged each of their models with performance aero packages, sporty wheels, and tons of other goodies. Which car will be next? When will we get our turn? Now, Tiguan lovers. Volkswagen has unveiled the new R-Line Tiguan. The company has fitted more aggressive front and rear bumpers, giving the car a more squat and sporty appearance. It will also feature some matching side skirts, an air diffuser, and some whopping 19-inch sport alloy wheels. Dressing up the interior will be an R-Line steering wheel, sport seats, stainless pedals, and various aluminum accent trim pieces. The model will be sold to the German market initially. Still no word on how long it will take to see our version of the R-Line Tiguan. RRRRRRRRRRR you Ready?

ESP. It's Like It Knows.......

Today's topic is VW's ESP, or Electronic Stabilization Program. ESP is a very intricate system of electronics that helps to correct the behavior of the car on the road in emergency situations. This system is your best friend when you have to swerve to avoid an accident. It can independently control each break to slow, or even stop, each wheel to change your direction of travel. In the case of the Tiguan and the Touareg (ESP4), the system also has a rollover protection system built in. If the car tilts too far to one side, it will lock up the brakes on that side, pitching the car back down to the floor. An interesting fact is that the government mandated that everybody use this technology by 2012. Well, we've been using it since 2009... in EVERY car.

To put the system in Layman's terms, the system can see the difference between where YOU want to go, and where the CAR wants to go. If these two directions are not the same, ESP steps in and helps to correct the problem before something bad happens. It's almost like it knows......

In this first video, you can see the Tiguan's ESP4 keeping the car from rolling over. You can see that with the system turned off, the car continues to spin out of control. With the system turned off, the wheels lock and the engine power is reduced to maintain control and prevent a rollover.
In this second video, you can see the general ESP system in action. Watch how controlled the maneuvers are with ESP turned on. Join us in the Beetle Blog for the next safety tip.

Tested and Approved

So what really goes into testing a new vehicle before it can be released. Suspension testing, leak testing, road testing, hinges, even the gas filler cap. Check out this pretty cool inside look at VW testing out the new Tiguan before its release. Trust me, yours can do the same.

More Safety than your typical H.......... Um... Competitor :)

So we all love that Jetta commercial with the bicycle, "is it fast?" But what about our Tiguan? I mean, our advertising firm has to come up with something to exemplify the safety of this small SUV, right? Right. Check out this funny clip.

It's Getting Hot in Here! (But please keep your clothes on)

Anybody remember the Fahrenheit edition GLI and GTI? Those cars were nice. They sported a unique orange or yellow paint with a nice aero kit and some performance wheels. What would happen if we kept that idea going with a Tiguan? I like to think it would look a little something like this....

It Feels Good To Know You Could

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a sporty, compact SUV with a turbo-charged engine pushing a lot of low-end torque. Although many of us won't be challenging mother nature's obstacles while trekking off-road, it feels good to know you could if you wanted to. Check out this funny commercial about the VW Tiguan from Europe.
